很多大学或研究机构不再将科研视之为对知识的追求，而是将其当做赚取金钱的手段。The Scientist杂志公布了美国生命科学工作者眼中的最佳学术机构，排名前三的是J. David Gladstone Institutes, Sage Bionetworks, Stowers Institute for Medical Research.
